Board

Shervan Fashandi, Ph.D.

Dr. Shervan Fashandi is an expert in banking and finance with years of experience in consultancy services to financial institutions.

After obtaining his Master’s degree in electrical engineering from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, Shervan earned a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

From 2011 to 2015, Dr. Fashandi worked in the banking industry in Canada. He then switched to management consulting from 2015 to 2017, where he focused on shepherding American clients, mostly banks and financial institutions, through areas of risk and public policy. In 2017, Dr. Fashandi relocated to New York, where he worked in capital market risk management in a leading global investment bank.

During his lifelong passion for STEM, Dr. Fashandi won the gold medal in the 1999 the International Physics Olympiad in Italy and holds a US Patent on wireless communications devices. Dr. Fashandi has published several articles on history of contemporary Iran and the current foreign affairs policy.

Daniel Jafari, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Daniel Jafari, a critical care emergency physician and assistant professor of Emergency Medicine and Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University at Northwell Health in New York. Dr. Jafari trained in the United States and United Kingdom, and holds a Master’s in public health from the Imperial College London. Dr. Jafari is an ardent activist for various human rights issues. He contributes to international new media outlets, including the Boston Globe and Radio Farda.

Samuel Shahan

The Iranian Americans for Liberty (IAL) are proud to welcome Samuel Shahan as a new Advisory Board member of the organization. Mr. Shahan is a PhD student at Radford University who is a registered nurse in Virginia. He was born in Iran and moved to America in 2009.

“We are thankful to have Mr. Shahan joining our Advisory Board. He’s a fierce advocate for human rights and he has always used his voice to speak out in support of the Iranian people. Welcome to the team.” said Dr. Daniel Jafari, Board President of IAL

Thomas Datwyler

Over the last twelve years, Thomas Datwyler has served as accountant and treasurer for numerous nonprofits, state and federal campaigns and committees. Thomas has extensive experience with FEC compliance and reporting, contribution processing, and record keeping. He has worked with political parties, committees, and candidates at the state and federal level. Including Congress, Senate and Presidential. Thomas began his career as a finance intern at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN. He is a spouse, father, and marathon runner. He holds a Business Finance and Accounting degree from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN.

MITRA JASHNI

Mitra Jashni is an artist, writer, translator, musician, video and graphic designer, painter and human rights activist. She teaches painting and vocal lessons. She is also a performing singer. She earned a master’s degree in arts in 2008. She has done research work in Modern Middle East Studies. Ms. Jashni is the director and founder of Mythra Gallery, a gallery specialized in Middle Eastern artwork. She also works part-time as the program coordinator & project manager for the UN, focusing on artistic and cultural projects for refugees in Europe. Ms. Jashni serves as the Executive Director of the Farashgard Foundation.
